Project Title
Solar Tower: an alternative arrangement for solar energy
production

Purpose
I wanted to design a 3D solar structure that produces more power
per unit area occupied as opposed to the traditional flat solar array
configuration. Therefore, based on Dr. Bernardis paper on three-
dimensional solar structures, I designed the following 3D structure.

Design
The Monte Carlo simulations conducted by Dr. Bernardis research
group indicated that the zigzag arrangement of the solar panel
produces energy with the greatest efficiency. Thus, in order to
employ this configuration, I built a base frame using pinewood. I
used an electrical saw to cut the individual pieces of wood (some
with a 45 degree angled end) and attached the pieces using L-
hinges and nails. The solar panel was attached to the base frame
using zip ties.
