PRESSURIZATION AIR VOLUME CALCULATION
CALCULATION EXAMPLE OF FLOW RATE OF SUPPLY AIR FOR PRESSURIZATION
(Based on ASHRAE Application, Chapter 53, Equation 8 & 9, edition on 2011)
The air flow rate, through a construction crack, door gap, or other flow path is proportional to the pressure
difference across that path raised to the power n.
For a flow path of fixed geometry, n is theoretically in the range of 0.5 to 1.
However, for all flow paths, except extremely narrow cracks, n = 0.5, and the flow can be expressed as ;
Q = CA(2p/)
where,
Q = volumetric air flow rate
C = flow coefficient
A = flow area (called leakage area)
p = pressure difference across the flow path
= density of air entering the flow path
The flow coefficient depends on the geometry of the flow path, as well as on turbulence and friction.
In the present context, the flow coefficient is generally in the range of 0.6 to 0.7.
For = 1.2 kg/, and C = 0.65, the flow equation above can be expressed as ;
Q = 0.8392 Ap
where,
Q = volumetric air flow rate (/s)
A = flow area (called leakage area) ()
p = pressure difference across the flow path (Pa)
Total leakage area should be summed with data of each architectural component as below ;
Room name : G01-GIS ROOM (GIS BUILDING_RTR) Room pressure (Pa) : 25
