WASHINGTON:IndiaandtheUStodaysignedanimportantagreementthatwillmakethetwo
nationslogisticalalliesandenableboththemilitariestouseeachother'sassetsandbasesfor
repairandreplenishmentofsupplies.

Welcomingthesigningofthebilateral'LogisticsExchangeMemorandumofAgreement'
(LEMOA),DefenceMinisterManoharParrikarandUSDefenceSecretaryAshtonCartersaid
thepactwillfacilitateopportunitiesfor"practicalengagementandexchange".

andIndianmilitariesonareimbursablebasis,andprovidesaframeworktogovernthem.

TheUShasagreedtoelevatedefencetradeandtechnologysharingwithIndiatoalevelcommensuratewithitsclosestalliesandpartners.

Thevisittheirsixthofficialinteractiontodatedemonstratestheimportancebothsidesplaceonstrengtheningdefencetiesacrossmany
areas:fromstrategicandregionalcooperation,todeepenedmilitarytomilitaryexchanges,toexpandedcollaborationondefencetechnology
andinnovation,itsaid.

WelcomingIndia'smembershipintheMissileTechnologyControlRegime(MTCR),CarterreaffirmedUSsupportforIndia'smembershipinthe
NuclearSuppliersGroup(NSG).

AcknowledgingIndia'spositivecontributionstoregionalsecurityandstability,includinginmattersbeyondthemaritimespace,Carterand
Parrikarannouncedtheiragreementtofurtherconsultationsinthearea,includingthroughthenextMaritimeSecurityDialogue,scheduledlater
thisyear.

militaryexchanges,toexpandedcollaborationondefencetechnologyandinnovation.

7)BothParrikarandCarterhaveagreedontheimportance(that)thisframeworkwillprovidetofacilitateinnovativeandadvancedopportunities
indefencetechnologyandtradecooperation.

8)Tothisend,theUShasagreedtoelevatedefencetradeandtechnologysharingwithIndiatoalevelcommensuratewithitsclosestalliesand
partners.
