#1: Goalkeeper
- Communication should be perpetual, giving
useful information and positive reinforcements
- Physically prepared to come off the line and
deal with long balls played behind defense
- Have the ability and confidence to receive ball
and pass ball with both feet
- Wise and accurate decision making when
distributing with punt, throw and feet
- Shot-stopping
- Dealing with crosses
- Organizational skills
- Leadership skills
#2/3: Outside Backs
(Attacking Backs)
- Ability to defend in wide areas
- Ability to defend 1v1
- High level of endurance
- Providing width in possession
- Staying compact with the back line
- Get forward and attacks in transition and possession
- Provides crosses into the box
- #2 provides support for #4,5, 7
- #2 provides outlet and switching the point of attack
through #6, 8 and 10
- #3 provides support for #4, 5, 11
-#3 provides outlet and switching the point of the attack
through #6, 8, 10
#4/5: Center Backs
- Needs to read the game well
- Needs to defend 1v1
- Needs to organize defensive and midfield
lines
- Leaders, organizers, TALKERS
- Strong in the air
- Good technically to play out of back
- Good physically
- Good decision making in/ around the box
#6: Holding Center
Midfielder
- Reads the game well tactically
- Connects defensive and midfield lines
- Gets attacking player on the ball
- Can play quickly and accurately
- Ability to intercept the ball
- Solid 1v1 defending and tracking
- Ability to switch the point of attack and maintain possession
- Good in the air
- Provides cover for #4,5, 2, 3, 7, 11
- Provides support for #3,11,2,7,9 (when more attacking role)
- Provides support for #2,3,4,5, 11,7,9 (when more defensive role)
- High level of fitness
- Works closely and inter changeably with #8, 10
#8: Box-to-Box
Center Midfielder
- Needs to be able to attack and defend
- High level of fitness
- Solid 1v1 and tracking defender
- Drives the team forward
- Ability to switch the point of attack and maintain possession
- Shoot dribble and penetrate
- Looks to make runs into gaps in the opposing teams backline
Provides support for #3,11,2,7,9 (when more attacking role)
- Provides support for #2,3,4,5, 11,7,9 (when more defensive
role)
- Works closely and inter changeably with #6,10
#10: Attacking Center
Midfielder
- Needs to have a high attacking IQ
- Ability to see and connect the penetrating pass
- Understands the flow of the game typically the heart beat of
the team
- Ability to track runners defensively
- Solid fitness level
- Provides quality in the final third
- Good with both feet
- Able to dribble/pass/shoot/penetrate/assist/score
- Looks to make runs into gaps in the opposing teams backline
- Provides support for #2,7,3,11,9
- Works closely and inter changeably with #6, 8
#7,11: Outside Wingers
- Ability and desire to take people on and engage defenders
- Provides crosses
- Finishes crosses
- Combination play required
- Attacks the box
- Ability and knowledge to play in the half-space, leaving
room for the overlap from #2,3,8 or 10
- Tracking back defensively of opposing teams outside back/
outside midfielder
- Provides cover for their #2 or 3
- Applies directional pressure in attacking half
- Works closely and inter changeably with the #11, 9
#9: Target Striker
- Ability to score goals
- Ability to play with back to goal
- Presence in the box
- Gets others involved in attack
- Good finisher of any ball
- Be able to get involved in combination
- Looks to make runs in behind the back line
- Able to keep and maintain possession in transition
- Finds the gaps between other teams #4,5 and 6
- Applies pressure and covers opposing teams #4,5
