bowl, ice, construction paper, scissors, glue, crayons, Squirrels Busy Day by Lucy Barnard.
PROCEDURES:
I will call small groups back to do the activity while you work on a craft.
For the craft were going to make a squirrel and show that it is preparing for winter by collecting acorns.
Show an example of the craft while students work.
As students start working, call over groups to do the blubber glove activity.
Students will touch regular water in a bowl to feel the coolness of it.
Then add ice and have students feel the even colder water.
Once students have felt the ice cold water, they will put on a glove with animal fat (Crisco).
Have students explain the difference they feel.
The End (10 minutes) Restate the learning objective with student involvement.
Once all students have gotten a turn, get students attention with Give me 5.
Boys and girls, today weve learned about a lot of different activities that animals do in fall.
Who can tell me some activities animals do during the fall?
Call on some students to answer.
Then have students talk to a buddy about activities so everyone gets a chance to share.
