CHILDREN WITH INFIRMITY or CHRONIC DISEASE
SUMMARY

From the antiquity, the infirmity constitutes more major social phenomenon
with wider economic extensions for each country. The chronic disease and the
infirmity in the children's age (Intellectual Delay, Autism, Diabetes Melitus,
Thalassemia, Leukaemia) occupy at international, as soon as at Hellenic level. The
international epidemiologic studies are focused mainly in the stage of re-
establishment (medical social - professional) the individuals with infirmity. On the
contrary in our country from our small scale research, it results that the services of re-
establishment are very little concerning dimensions of problem. Basic condition that
will contribute decisive in the improvement of re-establishment is the application of
legislative provisions that establishes the State for individuals with infirmity.
The role of Visitor of Health in the infirmity and in the chronic disease of
children's age, encompasses the clinical intervention in the child and in his family,
offering nursing care, psychological support, briefing on the pharmaceutical education
and on the complications of treatment of each disease. Also, the Visitor of Health
contributes also in the stage of re-establishment of individuals with infirmity
receiving the role of coordinator between individual with infirmity and the services of
re-establishment.

Key-words:

Infirmity, child, social integration, re-establishment, professionals of health, child

with special needs, interdisciplinary team, Sikiaridion, PEGAP, ELEPAAP,
psychological support, family, Visitor of Health.
