1.0 OBJECTIVE
To describe the procedure for installing suspended ceiling for the buildings under the
contract no GTC.101/ED/01 Engineering, Procurement, Installation and
Commissioning (EPIC) of Ras Laffan Utilization Project Buildings and utilities and
support service Phase 1-Utilities.
2.0 SCOPE
To install suspended ceilings in the buildings at Service Berth, Service Base and F.S.O
Marine areas

4.0 PROCEDURE
4.3.1 Approval of ceiling material like framing sections, ceiling board, panels etc
should be taken from QP engineer before proceeding with ceiling works. All the
approved materials sample should be available at site for reference.
4.3.1 Approval from QP shall be obtained for shop drawings showing the general
layout, support framing, and installation details including lay-in, hanger and
support details.
c) All works above the ceiling such as ductwork, pipe work, and electrical work
had been installed, tested, inspected and approved by QP.
d) The positions of light fittings, diffusers and the like have been checked.
e) The positions of access panels have been confirmed with the QP engineer.
g) The fastenings and supports installed by others are rigid and secured in
place.
h) The installation of other services shall not touch the back of the ceiling.
a) The lay-in material shall be tile, plank or strips and shall be approved by QP
engineer
b) The lay-in material shall have a fire performance when tested in accordance
with BS 476 part 6,7. A test certificate for this purpose shall be submitted to
QP for the review and approval.
4.4.2 INSTALLATION
b) The ceiling tiles shall be set out so that the soffits are level, free from undulations
and lipping, with all lines and joints straight and parallel to walls unless shown other
wise.
c) They are symmetrical about the centre lines of the roof, or space, beginning
with a tile or joint line as required avoiding narrow tiles at the perimeter
edges.
d) All junctions between the ceiling and walls, and between the ceiling and
columns, the ceiling shall be finished with perimeter edge trim. The trim shall
be fixed at maximum 450 mm centers.
f) Care shall be taken to ensure that the tiles, strip ceilings are kept clean if
subsequently removed for access to services, for inspection or for the
remedial work.
4.5.1 GENERAL:
a) Gypsum board will be used for fixed type suspended ceilings unless
otherwise indicated in the Drawings.

a) A complete setting out of the ceiling area for lines and levels have to be
carried out prior to framing works. And the levels have to be approved by
the QP engineer.
