Golden Rules of Commissioining
There are 40 golden rules that each person in the commissioning team must
understand and follow when performing the commissioning tasks. These rules
are:
On Site:
Rule 10: Attend site safety and commissioning inductions before starting
any field commissioning activity.
Rule 11: Stay safe; think about what could go wrong. Be aware of the
forces and energy involved.
Rule 13: Be aware that things can occur without warning at the
commissioning site.
Rule 15: Always ensure that your personal-danger tag goes after
operators isolation tag.
Rule 16: If you come across unsafe equipment, declare it so with an out-
of-service tag.
Rule 17: Understand the equipment, and special operating and safety
requirements in your area.
Rule 19: Use your engineering skills and judgement; just because
something is checked does not make it correct.
Rule 26: Ensure that testing and commissioning items of equipment are
always in good condition.
Rule 27: Plan your work on a monthly, weekly and daily basis.
Rule 34: Ask questions, do not assume you know how a system should
work.
Rule 36: Do not start next stage of the commissioning unless you have
completed all the prerequisites.
Rule 37: Mange mod squad work load properly.
Rule 38: Always ensure that you complete 100% controls testing of each
process logic unit.
Rule 39: Start testing the plant sub-systems with water only, where
possible, when 100% controls testing of the process logic units is
complete.
