INTRODUCTION

A site visit for Advanced Construction was conducted by us on 27 July 2017.

The location of the site was Laksminagar . A group of 4 students went for
the site visit. The agenda of the visit was to in-depth understanding of
construction practice of temporary structures. This knowledge will help the
students to gain perception of how construction in real-life situation is
carried. The site has on-going construction of pandal for Navratri.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Location:

Laksminagar, Nagpur

Purpose:

for Navratri.

Expected completion date:

20th of September

Materials:

Bamboo + steel; with fabric ropes

SITE VISIT DESCRIPTION

The theme of the Navratri pandal was the Nagpur metro. Most of the
structure is made bamboo, but there is steel components supporting the
special tableau (model of a Metro).

Cross bracings are provided between vertical supports.

The joinery is done through fabric ropes and in some places it was bolted.
The workers explained the fabric ropes were used they were easily available
and did not rot in the rainy season like the coconut ropes.

The structure was covered by a polythene sheet and canvas, to prevent

seepage of water and shelter from elements. The sheets and canvas were
kept in place by tying it to the bamboo frame structure.

To counterbalance the wind loads, rakers supported the structure from

outside as they were firmly embedded in the soil with a peg.
During the time we went for the site visit, they did not start with the flooring
yet but it is most likely to be plainly carpeted.
CONCLUSION

At the end of the site visit and experiencing real working space and the
environment of construction, we realized that working at construction site is
much more different and also more difficult, because of the weather
conditions and the existing risks.

We also learnt many things by identifying various types of construction

process and methods that are used, by talking and asking questions to the
construction team.
