- Character Hello Everyone!
October is coming to an end and I have been reflecting on how
growth/change much our class has grown in the past two months. By now we have fully
- Interactive Read Aloud: settled into our routines and our community bond is growing stronger. I
My Life in Dog Years have been so impressed by the compassion and empathy the students
show to each other and by the valuable contributions they bring to our
community discussions. I am lucky to have such a wonderful group!
This week we will finish brainstorming and begin research phase of
Writing our informative writing unit. Each student will be researching and writing
- Informational Writing an informative research paper about a topic of their choice. This week the
students will make the final selection of their topic and will come up with a
o Brainstorming maximum of four subtopics to support their research. In the coming weeks
we will be using the Chromebooks in our classroom and books from the
o Research school library as we explore various online resources and databases in
order to gather information for our topics. Please check in with your child
and ask them about their research topic!
Math We are continuing through Module 3 in math which focuses on
- Multi-digit multiplication multi-digit multiplication and division. As I mentioned last week, it is very
and division important that each student is fluent in their single-digit multiplication
facts. If your child is working on single-digit multiplication as a math goal,
please support them in practicing their fast facts at home using flashcards,
Science online games, or family board games that incorporate single-digit
multiplication (Yahtzee is a favorite of mine!)
- Engineering and Design If you are at Jacob Wismer in next few weeks, be sure to pop in
o Catapult lab check out the fish tank in the library! We just received salmon eggs last
week and we are looking forward to watching them hatch! We will track
their growth and development over the next few months and then we will
Social Studies release them in December.
Last week we had a class gumball party to celebrate that our
- Oregon Geography class made 100 smooth transitions! The faster we transition as a class the
more teaching and learning time we are able to have, so smooth
transitions make a huge difference! Congratulations everyone!
