Impedance and Transmission Tube Suite

Follows ISO 10534-2, ASTM E1050,
and ASTM E2611 (using 3 or 4 microphones methods)

Overview

Mecanums tube suite differentiates itself from the competition

by its quality and by the service that comes with it.
It can characterize a wide range of materials from simple foams
to complex multilayers including resistive screen sand fabrics.
Mecanums tube suite complies with ISO 10534-2 and ASTM
E1050 for sound absorption, and with ASTM E2611 for
transmission loss measurements.

Features
Standard Mecanum's tube suite includes:
Acoustic tube 44.5 mm [50-4100 Hz] frequency range (Default size):
o 29 mm [500-6000 Hz] frequency range (optional);
o 100 mm [50-1800 Hz] frequency range (optional);
o Custom shape and dimension (optional)
2 microphones for impedance tube suite only;
3 or 4 microphones for impedance/transmission suite tube;
DAQ system with ultra-low distortion audio amplifier;
Tube-X software, automatically communicates with the DAQ (plug & play system);
Verification sample used to check the measurement procedure;
Mounting rings to improve sample position in the tube and avoid acoustic leak;
Mounting grid to test limp materials at a fixed thickness;
Data exports to Microsoft Excel format.
Measured normal incidence properties 2-mic 3 or 4-mic
Sound absorption coefficient
Complex reflection coefficient
Specific surface impedance
Characteristic acoustic impedance
Complex wave number
Equivalent fluid dynamic density
Equivalent fluid dynamic bulk modulus
Transfer matrix coefficients (4-pole)

Tube-X software fully controls the measurement procedure from the calibration to the
measurement itself. It corrects for atmospheric conditions and tube's internal dissipation,
and automatically controls the sound level inside the tube.
The 3 microphones method, only offered by Mecanum, provides more accuracy and precision than the 4
microphones method, with quicker and simpler measurements.

Add-ons & Complements

Mecanums tube suite is a very powerful tool for any acoustic lab, especially when combined with Mecanum accessories and
simulation software.

Resistive screen and fabric holder

These accessories will improve the measurement for thin material that do not have enough mechanical strength to
hold in place in the tube. They will also minimize acoustical leaks around samples.
Foam-X software
Based on the sound absorption coefficient measured in impedance tube
(ASTM E1050, ISO 10534-2), Foam-X computes all the acoustic parameters
you need to model a single or an equivalent acoustic material.

Nova software
Nova predicts sound absorption and transmission loss (and more) of single
or multilayer materials. Simulation is based on the acoustic parameters you
determined with FoamX or direct characterisation apparatuses such as a
airflow resistance meter (SIGMA), a porosity meter (PHI), a tortuosity meter
(TOR), and a mechanical analyzer (QMA).

Warranty & Support

Because Mecanum clients expect nothing but first quality instrumentation, all our characterization systems are
covered by a 1-year limited warranty1. Technical support is also provided for the whole of this period. Instrumentation
is covered by there manufacturers original warranty.
1 Mecanum Warranty is only valid on manufacturing defects and will not cover damage due to any abusive or improper use.
