America was a lot different, back then than it is today.
Mexico owned states that belong to America today such
as,California, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The main
reason America, which was just the eastern states back then,
wanted more land was to spread democracy.

California was valuable because of their ports. Mexico stayed in

California missions so they could alert people that this is their
land. America offered to buy California and New Mexico for 30
million dollars, but Mexico didnt want the offer.

Polk sent an army to go to Rio Grande which was Mexicos

territory, and crossed onto their land. Mexico tried to make
them leave and Polks army refused but in the end several
U.S soldiers died, and real fighting of the war began.

The war begins. While the war occurring, Polk sent another
general to take over Santa Fe, and they ended up taking it
easily, while some of Mexicos people fled the country.

There was 12,000 Californios and 500 Americans living in

California, at the time. Those 500 Americans took over
Sonoma. California made their own flag because they wanted
to be free.

The Californios, later gave up fighting and left. Polk told General Winfield to
take the city of Veracruz from Mexico. Then in 1847 Mexico fell.

Mexico and The US agreed to peace by letting Mexicans that
already lived there stay in their homes.

Americans paid Mexico $15 million for their land and another $10
million to have enough room to build their own railroad track.

The Mexicans living on American land were treated wrong and
couldnt fight for what they believed in, and didnt have enough
money to pay for their homes.

Mexicans were finally being treated equally kind. There was peace between the
Mexicans and Americans. They also shared and celebrated their cultures, and
came together as one nation.

The Manifest destiny goal was never really reached. Mexico does not own
California anymore ,it belongs to the U.S. and California has become what it is
today.
