Professional Inquiry Project Proposal

Mark Argyle
In the busy and often hectic world of education it is important to remember how to
properly manage your time and life; this includes students and teachers, life seems to get in the
way of work and school. The purpose of this Inquiry Project is to understand and evaluate the
schedules of both students and teachers, and help create a time and life management program in
order for those involved to handle not only their school lives but their personal lives as well.
There is a necessity with all of us to take time to realign our centers and find personal wellness
when we have the opportunity, and by creating this program of time and life management the
intent is to form a well-rounded life where everything is in reasonable balance.
The Inquiry Question itself centers around, How can we create a schedule where time
management, work management, and stress management are all addressed, and allow for the
highest level of success of students, as well as teachers?
The actually project itself will consist of a website that allows for student and teacher
check in, surveys about life and time management, and a template for the best utilization of time.
The scheduling for this project in practice varies based on the setting of the school, my partner
for this project is currently working in the Quarter System, and therefore his timing will be much
more rapid (e.g. the surveying of students and teachers will be done at a higher interval than in
the normal setting scheduling setting). As for my own implementation, there is the ability to
spread it out over a longer time period, which also allows for more time to make the changes in
ones life schedule. An initial survey will be given to students further into the school year in
order for them to figure out their own schedules, this survey will address the questions of how
much time is spent where, before the implementation of the time management suggestions.
Another survey will be given a month later to evaluate if or how the changes have affected the
time management and stress level of students and teachers. And then a final survey will be given
just prior to Christmas to evaluate the success rate and implementation of the management
changes.
As I stated previous, the end result will be a flexible template and website which will
allow the participants to monitor their own progress and see where they can make changes in
their time schedules. At the basic level this project seeks to allow students and teachers the
opportunity to find a higher degree of success in their class by laying the foundation for a better
utilization of their own time, while setting aside time to help both parties with management of
life and stress.
