In this paper we attempt to study on the contribution of both the users
organizations and those of their families to the combat against stigma.
For this purpose we initially refer to the relation between mental illness and stigma
and, since the necessity of combating the latter is concluded, we suggest ways and
practices of confronting it.
Detailed reference to the patients rights was considered necessary before
analyzing the attitudes, aims and targets of the organizations both at home and abroad.
We ascertained that the users through their organizations emerge as an energetic factor
of claim and dispute, capable of exerting pressure at the level of Mental Health Units
and at the level of framing the Mental Health policies as well.

In this effort there was effective help by the Health professionals whom we contacted
and mostly by the users themselves who gave us material and shared their views
and experiences with us.
