Abstract

Current improvement of RGB blending of constant frequencies from Spectral Decomposition has been
popular in seismic interpretation especially in delineating geological features or lithology such as thin
channel sands and carbonate build ups. Since the geological features might show up in different
frequency, assigning three frequencies volume in three different colors (red, green and blue) and
visualize them in RGB blending will make the interpretation much easier. The geological features will
show up in different color and therefore can be distinguished much easier than using conventional
seismic interpretation.

A challenge comes when two geological features are shown up in two different colors which are difficult
for human eye to discriminate such as blue-cyan-violet. Transforming the three frequencies volume from
RGB to HSV (Hue-Saturation-Value) color space and shift the color spectrum greatly improves the seismic
interpretation. If the spectrum can be shifted to the colors where the human eye is sensitive most such as
red-yellow-green, the geological features can be distinguished easier. Furthermore, since certain
geological feature might be associated with certain color, it will be possible to highlight it by masking the
other geological feature which associated to other color. This can be done by lowering the saturation to
make it displayed in greyscale, lowering the value to make it displayed darker, or lowering the
transparency.

This paper is intended to propose new technique of blending frequencies of spectral decomposition based
on Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) for delineating the lateral distribution of Ngimbang clastic and
our trial on 3D seismic in North Madura Platform shows that HSV technique enables us to identify the
lateral distribution of Ngimbang Clastic better.
