Title: Math Presentation

Summary: Students will each have a worksheet of 50 math problems. They will be assigned a specific problem
that they will be required to use Screencast-O-Matic to make a presentation showing how they did their work.

Learners: Students will be fifth grade students learning math.

Standards:

21st century skill: 1c) Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and
to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
State/common core standard(s): CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions
with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like
denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.2
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including
cases of unlike denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use
benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of
answers. For example, recognize an incorrect result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that 3/7 < 1/2.

Timeline of activities (Instructional Procedures): As an anchor, I will explain to the students that when they
are baking they will be using fractions. If they want to double their serving size, they will have to know how to
add fractions and if a smaller serving size is desired the student will have to know how to subtract fractions. I
will hand out the worksheets and direct the students that there will be 50 problems on the worksheet. The
students will have the choice of additions or subtraction in fractions. They will also be able to make their own
real-life comparison to how it relates fractions. I will explain the task to the students which will be that each
student will have an assigned problem that they will have to use their iPad for and use the Screencast-O-Matic
app. They will then be assigned to partners and make a presentation explaining how they did that problem. I
will demonstrate this in the front of the classroom with my iPad. I will be walking around the room in case any
questions arise. Before going over the presentations, I will allow time for students to review what they have
done and make any edits they may need to make. When reviewing the presentations, I will give feedback of
how they did. This project will be completed in the computer lab from 1:30 to 2:30.

Assessment Plan:
As a pre-assessment, I will hand out a quiz that will be ungraded. This will be a short quiz and students will
have a minute to show me what they know. Once the minute is up, we will go over it in class. Once the
homework sheets are passed out and completed, I will be able to assess the students on what they know with
the Screencast-O-Matic app.
