"Mom Was Right. Proper Posture Is Important To Health" from SCMP

right-proper-posture)

Why is this a good example of blurred lines?

This article is quite informative as it provides a lot of problems brought by improper postures. It
falls into the category of journalism since it informs the reader about the health issues that is
considered as public interest. Also, SCMP is an independent organization that is directly
accountable for the content of the article provided by the interviewee (who is a professional in the
field). Yet, we are not sure whether the information provided is verified or not. Nevertheless, this
article should also be an advertorial because it is also used for promotion. The phrase sponsored
article is explicitly shown before the main body, indicating that this is not pure journalism. In the
last paragraph, there is the contact number of the hospital that the interviewee is working at. It
gives people an illusion that the physiotherapy or rehabilitation support is the ultimate solution to
the problems addressed above. It imperceptibly incorporates advertisement into journalism.
Therefore, I think it is a combination of promotion and journalism.
