Then on the last play from scrimmage of the half, Kefu took
the ball on fourth-and-13 and rumbled 15 yards for a first
down. With the clock ticking down, Rodriguez and the kicking
unit got onto the field just in time for him to boot a 31-yarder,
giving the Mustangs a 34-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Cap added scores on a 4-yard run by Kefu,
a 4-yard run by senior RJ Nobe, and a 5-yard sweep by senior
Abnan Grajeda. The Mustangs looked to have another score in
the closing seconds when Elijah Acacio intercepted a
Domomnic Piefer pass Mills fourth turnover of the game
and returned it 80 yards for an apparent score; but Cap was
levied with a yellow flag as most of the sideline flooded the
field before Acacio reached the end zone, nullifying the TD.
With a running clock in effect throughout the fourth quarter,
Acacios pick was the final play of the night.
Cap lineman Reyes Dianos-Marquez played an inspired game
both sides of the ball. He had a number of tackles for losses off
his defensive end spot, and had several big blocks for Kefu and
brother Jean-Paul Kefu (eight carries for 73 yards).
Our goal was to hold them to zero again, Dianos-Marquez
said. To hold them two years in a row.
Mills (1-3, 3-6) went down swinging though. The Vikings
tried for a trick play on their final possession, with sopho-
more running back Nuku Vahai airing out an option pass to
Killigrew for an 18-yard pickup. But Cap was able to collapse
Mills offensive line consistently throughout.
We just didnt get off the blocks, Mills head coach Mike
Dozier said. We struggled blocking, no gap integrity. Weve
got to get better at that.
Mills has seen flashes of greatness this season from its big
three in the backfield. Cap keyed on senior Sione Langi effec-
tively Friday, but he, along with Killigrew and Christian Sael
have all had senior moments to remember throughout the year.
If those three guys didnt do what they did, we wouldnt
have won the three games we did, Dozier said. So Im going
to miss them.

Caffeine is a drug, but caffeine is not ille-
gal. About 90 percent of America consumes
caffeine in some form every day, whether
its coffee, soda, energy drinks or other
substances (Villanova University).
Caffeine is Americas most popular drug
and, in moderate amounts, caffeine is rela-
tively safe.
In concentrated spikes, however, which
is how current high school athletes are tak-
ing the performance-
enhancer, it could be
considered less so.
The International
Association of Athletics
Federation became the
first international sports
federation to set a rule
against doping by ath-
letes in 1928, and, since
then, policies have been adapted from the
Olympics, the Tour de France and Major
League Baseball, to high school, college
and club sports competitions to prevent
athletes from doping, going on steroids
and using other performance enhancers.
In the California Education Code, Section
49030-49034, Article 6.5, performance-
enhancing drugs are prohibited amongst
students. However, caffeine is not one of
those prohibited substances, although it is
on the World Anti-Doping Agency monitor-
ing list and may actually enhance perform-
ance.
Student-athletes in particular like the caf-
feine boost because they say it gives the
adrenaline a little spike; its a perceived
rush and a quick way to heighten the inten-
sity of the game.
They use workout drinks, gel pods, pills,
energy shots and, in more extreme cases, From a country-bumpkin bartender in the smash 1980s sitcom Cheers, to going full prostetics as the star of Rob Reiners upcoming LBJ,
