Triangle Congruence Assessment

Here is your chance to put everything that weve learned together and show your mastery of the
material that weve studied so far.

In this project, youll work with in a group of at least 3 (but no more than 4) people to determine if a pair
of triangles is congruent or not using the SSS, SAS, ASA or AAS congruence postulates.

Part I
I will give each group a pair of triangles with certain information that can be used to justify various
congruence postulates. Using these and your higher-level thinking skills, each group will determine if
there is enough information to prove whether or not both triangles are congruent. If the triangles are
congruent, write down the justifications that prove them to be so; in the event that they are not
congruent, explain why or which missing piece(s) of information would be needed in order to do so.

Once you and your group have determined whether or not your triangles are congruent, write down the
relevant information and justifications on a separate sheet of paper. Though you are working as a team,
EACH GROUP MEMBER MUST HAVE THEIR OWN paper to turn in after this activity has been completed.

Part II
After you have completed the first part, you and your group will then be called to the front of the room
and the whiteboard to present your answer to the class. One person from the group will draw the pair
of triangles on the board. Another (or two in a group of four) will write down the information that was
given to each group on the board. Then, and using the drawings and the information on the board, the
remaining group member will explain to the class the groups thinking process and how they determined
whether or not each pair of triangles is congruent.

It is also recommended that you study the grading rubric below so that you know how you will be
graded. Remember, your justifications, drawings, diagrams and any other information that your present
should clearly show your logical thinking and how your arrived at your answer. That being said, you are
also encouraged to use your creativity to make your presentation to the class interesting and
entertaining. Be prepared for the teacher or other students from the class to ask you questions!
