National Talent Search Examination
State Level Screening Test - 2010 -’11
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 In order to identify talented young pupils from
very early stages the NCERT is organising the
National Talent Search Examination at Class
VIII level.
1.2 To minimise the number of competitors at
National level, a State Level Screening Test
will be conducted in November at Class VIII
level. The National Level Examination will be
conducted in May in the succeeding year.
1.3 One Thousand scholarships will be awarded
to the National Level winners. Of these, 225
will be reserved for the Schedule Castes/
Scheduled Tribes and 30 for physically
challenged group of children.
1.4 Scholarships upto Ph.D. level/ post graduate
are provided to the winners at the National
Level.
2. ELIGIBILITY FOR APPEARING FOR THE
SCREENING TEST.
2.1 Only those pupils who are studying in Class
VIII of any government/ aided/ recognised
schools/ Kendriya Vidyalaya/ Navodaya
Vidyalaya during 2010 -2011 are eligible to
appear for the screening test and for the
second level examination to be conducted
by the NCERT in May 2011.
2.2 For the State Level Screening Test, only
those pupils who have secured not less than
C+ grade (50% - 55%) for all the non-
language subjects in the qualifying
examination of Class VII of 2009-’10 will be
admitted. This is to be certified by the Head
of Institution.

2.3 Pupils who wish to apply for the screening test should
ascertain the grade they have got in the non-
language subjects for the final examination in Class
VII during 2009-’10 from the school authorities
before procuring application forms.
3. HOW TO APPLY
3.1 The application for the State Level Screening Test
should be submitted in the prescribed application form
developed by the SCERT.
3.2. Pupils can download the Application form and other
details for the State Level NTS Exam from the SCERT’s
website: www.scert.kerala.gov.in or the website of
the IT@School - www.itschool.gov.in. Specimen
application form is also available at the Office of the
District Educational Officer of the district concerned.
3.3 Examination fee for Rs.100/- and filled in application
form should be submitted to the school in which the
candidate is studying. However, pupils of SC/ ST and
BPL categories are exempted from paying the
examination fee. Application fee for all the
candidates in a school should be collected in
cash and remitted by a single demand draft
and sent along with the application forms,
with a covering letter of the head of the
institution. The applications should be accompanied
by the demand draft drawn on or before 31. Aug. 2010.
The application form and the admission card should
be properly filled in. It should be certified duly by the
Head of the Institution. The demand draft should be
drawn in favour of The Director, SCERT payable at SBT
Service Branch, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram (see
the instructions on pages 5,6 and 7 before filling in the
application form).
3.4. Passport size photographs of the applicant duly attested
by the Head of the Institution should be affixed at the
space provided both in the Application Form and in the
Admit Card.
3.5. The duly filled in application form should be forwarded

3.6. Applications may also be deposited in the box kept for
the purpose at the SCERT, POOJAPPURA till 5 pm.
on the last date of submission of application.
3.7. THE LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF THE
APPLICATIONS IS 31-08-2010.
3.8. Applications received after the specified time will not be
considered.
3.9. The columns provided for the Centre Code Number
should be filled in by the candidate by referring to the
Centre Codes given in the Instructions to the candidate.

5.3 In addition to the written test at the National Level, the
winners have to undergo an interview conducted by the
NCERT.
5.4 The final result of the National Level Test will be
declared taking into account the performance of the
candidate at the interview.
5.5 The Language in which you would like to get the question
papers should also be noted in the application form. You
may choose English, Malayalam, Tamil or Kannada as
your language.
5.6 Any attempt of canvassing would lead to the
disqualification of the candidate.
