Kenya uses an Unitary State as part of their
government. This means that one single
power is responsible for making Executive
decisions for the rest of the country.
Background
Kenya gained its independence from Great
Britain in the year of 1963. The country of
Kenya started off as a parliamentary and
switch to Republican government. The
president during this time was Jamo
Kenyatta. He was Kenya's first leader she
remained Kenya's leader until Kenyatta died
in the year of 1978.
From the year of 1969 and 1992 the only
political party allowed was known as the
KANU (Kenya African National Union).
this allowed other political parties to register
to vote and make their voices heard. This
raised a lot of debates and controversy
throughout the country of Kenya.
Current President of Kenya
The president of Kenya is Uhuru Muigai
Kenyatta. Kenyatta was born on October
26th, 1961. He is the son of Jumo Kenyatta
who was the first leader in Kenya. Uhuru
Kenyatta became politically active in the
early years of the 1990s. In the year of
1997 he was held a chair position of a local
branch known as the KANU.
Kenyatta many times ran for the president
but did not succeed. The president at the
time Moi wanted to chose someone himself.
This however did not stop Kenyatta from
running again and finally in the year of
2013 was able to become president of
Kenya.
