I use Kahoot as a way to fomatively assess student mastery of key standards.

Kahoot is a great
way to gauge student understanding of key concepts as a whole, as well as on an individucal
case by case basis.
Here is an example of a Kahoot question I use to determine whether or not students can
correctly identify the meaning of dialogue. This question might serve as a diagnostic test to see
how many students are familiar with the word before they are tested on it.
This screenshot shows the namesof my students (omitted) and every question the answered.
Incorrect answers are highlighted in red provide a quick snap shot of the questions that were
commonly answered wrong. I use this data to inform further instruction. For example, if my
students are struggling to differenciate between direct charcterization versus indirect
characterization, I may reteach the lesson for specific students on a differenciated work day.
Space Race

Space race is another online tool I use to fomatively assess student

understanding of key concepts and standards. Each student is represented
by their own rocket and color which is presented on the board. Each time a
student answers a question correctly, their space ship moves forward. This
is a fun and extremely engaging activity that my students love. It works
because it engages their intrinsic need to win! Like Kahoot, Space race
also provides teachers with a report detailing which questions each student
missed. I use this information to inform my instruction. It helps me create
content groups when I differencitate my classroom.
