COMPETITION MECHANICS

I. GENERAL RULES

1. Only bona fide Tourism, Tourism Management, Travel Management, Hotel & Restaurant Management,
Hospitality Management, Cruise Line Management and other tourism-related programs enrolled in the
current semester are allowed to join. In addition, at least ten (10) students per school should register in the
Students Congress to participate in the Skills Olympics.
2. The elimination round will be on February 28, 2013 at Treston International College. Expected attendees
during the elimination are the Faculty Coach/Faculty-in-Charge and students participating in the Skills
Olympics only.
3. For the elimination round, the schools are allowed to send more than three representatives for the Tour
Guiding, Quiz Bee, Tour Package and Kasuotang Pinoy. For the cultural presentation, only 1 entry per
school is allowed.
4. For the poster making and slogan making and Kasoutang Pinoy competitions, there will be no elimination
round.
5. The Final Skills competition will be on March 01, 2013 at Treston International College.
6. The school representative should submit the name of their contestants, photocopy of school IDs and
photocopy of certificate of enrolment of the contestants duly certified by the Dean, Chair or Authorized
Representative on or before January 28, 2013 at ufte1@live.com. The name/s of alternate/s should be
included.
7. No school/student representative will be allowed to register on the day of the competition/on-site
registration will not be entertained.
8. School advisers are only allowed in designated areas and are not allowed to be near their contestants
before and during the contest proper.
9. Contestant must attend the on-site briefing before the competition.
10. The judges(s) for each competition will exclude members of the UFTE Board.
11. Winning the much coveted UFTE Cup will require schools to join in all competitions.
12. A student-contestant may join in more than one competition provided it is not in conflict with the other
competitions.
13. All participants and participating schools will receive certificate of participation. Prizes (trophy, medals and
certificates) await the winners and winning school for skills competition.

14. For the final competition, the judging of winners is based on the point system below. The top 3 schools with
the most number of points will be declared winners. The school which will earn the highest total points will
be the over-all winner of the UFTE Cup (trophy).

15. Any violation of the above contest rules/guidelines will automatically disqualify the schools/contestants.

IV. SPECIFIC RULES FOR THE FINAL AND ELIMINATION ROUND

A. QUIZ BEE

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination round, the quiz bee is written: paper and pen shall be provided. The questions are
sealed and shall only be opened during the competition proper.
2. There will be three (3) rounds with five (5) questions. The following point system will apply for each:
Easy 1 point each
Moderate 3 points each
and Difficult 5 point each.
3. The same mechanics for the final round (Item no. 5-10) shall apply.

4. In the final round, each participant will be given a marker and white board where they are expected to
write their answers.
5. There will be three (3) rounds with five (5) questions. The following point system will apply for each: Easy
1 point each; Moderate 3 points each and Difficult 5 point each.
6. Each contestant is given ten (10) seconds to answer the question. The timer will ring the bell to signal
that the time is up.
7. The Quiz Master will read the questions twice only, after which the contestants should write the answer in
the answer sheets/cards provided.
8. Wrong spelling is wrong.
9. The questions are formulated by the Board Members (Schools) and shall be drawn on the spot during
the Contest Proper.
10. The questions are congruent to the Congress theme and shall come from the following topics: Tourism
Terminologies, Current Events, Tourism Updates, History, Culture and Heritage, Festivals and Events, Tour
Packaging/Operations/Guiding, Ecotourism, Tourism Plans, Programs and Laws.
11. In case of a tie, there will sudden-death questions.
12. For any clarifications, the contestants may consult the judges while the contest is ongoing. Corrections
or clarifications after the contest will not be entertained.
13. The judges decision is final.

B. TOUR GUIDING (DOMESTIC)

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round; in line with our Congress theme, the destinations assigned for the
contestants could be any of the major tourist destinations in Manila, Baguio, Batanes, Bicol, Bulacan,
Bohol, Boracay, Cagayan, Cagayan De Oro, Camiguin, Cebu, Cavite, Davao, Ifugao, Iligan, Ilocos
Norte, Ilocos Sur, Iloilo, Laguna, La Union, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro Palawan, Pampanga
Quezon, Pangasinan, Negros Occidental, Zambales and Zamboanga.

There will be a different set of pictures for the final round.


2. The contestant will pick out a small paper that contains the name of the destination five (5) minutes
before his or her Contestant number is called on stage.
3. There will be two (2) to three (3) pictures of the destination that will be flashed onscreen which the
contestant will have to describe or present to the audience as if he or she is talking to a tour group.
4. The contestant will be given three (3) minutes for his or her presentation.
5. The presentation should be delivered in English.
6. The judges decision is final.

C. TOUR GUIDING (ASIA)

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round; in line with our Congress theme, the destinations assigned for the
contestants could be any of the major tourist destinations in Asia: Philippines, Singapore, China,
Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Hongkong, India, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia,
Maldives, Taiwan and Israel.
There will be a different set of pictures for the final round.
2. The contestant will pick out a small paper that contains the name of the destination five (5) minutes
before his or her Contestant number is called on stage.
3. There will be two (2) to three (3) pictures of the destination that will be flashed onscreen which the
contestant will have to describe or present to the audience as if he or she is talking to a tour group.
4. The contestant will be given three (3) minutes for his or her presentation.
5. The presentation should be delivered in English.

D. TOUR PACKAGE PROPOSAL (DOMESTIC)

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round, each team is composed of two (2) participants. One is the
presenter while the other one is the technical assistant. Both of them may answer the questions asked
by the judges.
2. The team must be able to come up with an INCLUSIVE TOUR PACKAGE PROPOSAL (inclusions:
transportation, transfers, tours or sightseeing tours, hotel or resort accommodations, tour escort, etc.) for
four (4) days and three (3) nights in any of the following destinations: Manila, Baguio, Batanes, Bicol,
Bulacan, Bohol, Boracay, Cagayan, Cagayan De Oro, Camiguin, Cebu, Cavite, Davao, Ifugao, Iligan,
Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Iloilo, Laguna, La Union, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro Palawan,
Pampanga Quezon, Pangasinan, Negros Occidental, Zambales and Zamboanga. A combination of
two or more of the specified destinations will be accepted.
3. Participants may choose their own target market and should be specified in the proposal.
4. Each team will present, promote and market the tour package effectively using their own unique selling
preposition (USP), promotion strategies or marketing communications in order to enthused the panel of
judges and make the proposal, marketable, unique and causes people to prefer it.
5. The tour package cost should be specified in Philippine peso.
6. Teams should prepare an audio visual presentation of the proposal for a minimum of three (3) minutes
and maximum of seven (7) minutes using power point, windows moviemaker or any Microsoft
application. In case the participants will use background voice, it should be the voice of the presenter.
7. Each team is given a total of fifteen (15) minutes for actual presentation of the tour package including
the audio visual presentation. This is inclusive of the Q & A or clarifications from the judges.
8. Participants may bring their own laptop for the competition.
9. Teams should provide printed copies of the proposal to the members of the board of judges.
10. Participants are advised to wear corporate/business attire.
11. The presentation should be delivered in English.
12. The judges decision is final.

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round, each team is composed of two (2) participants. One is the
presenter while the other one is the technical assistant. Both of them may answer the questions asked
by the judges.

F. CULTURAL DANCE PRESENTATION

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round, the dance should depict positive Filipino traits and values (e.g.
industry, generosity, joviality, etc.) and should reflect the culture and tradition of the region being
represented.
2. Dance steps, music, costumes, accessories and equipment should be in the context of the Philippine
culture.
3. A minimum of two (2) pairs and maximum of six (6) pairs are allowed in each performing group.
4. The choreographer of the performing group should be a bona fide employee of the participating
school.
5. Live accompaniment is allowed during the performance but the musicians should not appear on stage.
6. Participants are given a minimum of five (5) and maximum of eight (8) minutes for their presentation.
The time allotment includes entrance and exit.

G. POSTER MAKING AND SLOGAN CONTEST

MECHANICS

1. Each team is composed of two (2) participants. Teams will be given only three (3) hours to present a visual
interpretation and slogan relevant to the Congress theme, Its More Fun in the Philippines.
2. All contest materials will be provided.
3. The visual interpretation and slogan should be unique and catchy.
4. Participating teams who write the name of the school instead of the assigned code in any part of the
poster will be disqualified for the event.
5. Teams will not be allowed to go out of the competition venue except to the restroom. Otherwise, they must
submit their entry to the event coordinator and will not be allowed to resume.
6. Each team will be given 1-2 minutes to explain the poster and slogan before the judges.
7. The judges decision is final.

H. KASUOTANG PINOY - INDIGENOUS / FILIPINO/ FILIPINIANA ATTIRE

MECHANICS

1. For the elimination and final round, participating school may send one (1) representative, male or
female to showcase Filipino / Filipiniana attire using biodegradable or recycled materials which should
be durable enough to be worn by student-candidate.

2. Each candidate must prepare a short spiel of not more than 15 sentences to describe their costume.

Process Flow
1. Arrival of participants

*Parking is limited.
*The Faculty-in-charge of each school shall accomplish an ingress and egress form for all competition
materials and equipments.

What to do Persons Responsible


1. Present the School ID at the school gate. Participating school
2. Usherettes assist and guide them to the Host School/UFTS
registration
3. Faculty-in-Charge present the proof of Faculty-in-Charge
payment such as deposit slip/receipt.
4. Faculty-in-Charge signs the registration to attest
to the veracity of the documents.
6. Student participants enter the designated
briefing area.

1. Roll call of all participants UFTE Officer

3. Competition Flow
3.1.1. Quiz Bee (see mechanics in the Final Round)
3.1.2. Tour Guiding (Domestic and Asia)
Students will draw lots or number during the Briefing.
Students will draw the destination 5-minutes before his/her slot.
3.1.3. Tour Package proposal (Domestic and International)
Students will draw lots or number during the Briefing.
Students are required to test and set up their presentation prior to their assigned slot.
3.1.4. Cultural presentation
Each group/school will draw lots or number during the Briefing.
They are required to submit their CD (properly labeled) to the UFTE Officer-in-Charge during the briefing.
