I.C.T Policies

HARTSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Bring Your Own Device.

1. A student is allowed to have a cell phone in his/her possession on the school compound. Parents are
informed of this in the parent/student handbook. They are also informed of consequences once rules are
not observed concerning the phones and other devices.

Mobile Phone Policy

1. During the school day (from the time a student arrives on the school compound until the end of
school' day) the cell phone must be turned off and cannot be visible.
2. While students are using the school's transport, the cell phone policy is in effect just as if the student
was in a classroom during the school day.
3. The only reasons for school personnel to ask a student to surrender a cell phone would be:
a - if the cell phone rang or vibrated (which would mean that the phone was turned on), or
b - if the teacher saw the cell phone (which would mean that the phone was visible).
4. Parents will be sent a letter making them aware of the policy and will be asked to visit the school to
sign as having seen the document.
5. If a student is found to be in violation of the cell phone policy and refuses to surrender the phone to
the dean and administration when asked, the procedure and resulting consequences will be as follows:
The student will be escorted to dean's room.
A parent or guardian will be called and asked to come to the school at that time to discuss the
situation and instruct the student to surrender the cell phone.

Inclusive & Gender Equality

1. Physical infrastructure has to become student- friendly for differently abled e.g. building ramps for
students to have access to I. T class room or assigning a classroom on ground floor for the I.T
lab.
2. Create a roster that allows every class the opportunity to use the I.T lab which ensures that every
student has the option to use the device and also every subject teacher has access to
technological aids.
