Convergence Notes

Media Convergence is a term used to refer to the

merging of previously distinct media technologies and
media forms resulting from digitalization and computer
networking.
Physical media refers to the physical materials that are
used to store or transmit information in data
communications. They can be touched and felt, and
have physical properties such as weight and colour
Digital media refers to any format or device used to
convey content using digital signals. For example:
when you talk on your cell phone, read an Internet
article, or watch a television show, you are using digital
media.
A negative impact of media convergence on film is that
movie piracy is easier to share with the community on
the internet therefore bringing loss to the film
producers and distributors.
A positive impact of media convergence on film is that
its able to reach audiences quickly through a
legal/authorised distributor.
