President Rodrigo Dutertes 2017 State of the Nation Address

Duterte's promise to end the war on drugs and criminals has always been his
remarked goal ever since his first term as the president of the country, and through his
fearlessness, virility, and a heart of steel, numerous people have gone and fell to the Oplan
Tokhangs evenhanded exertions. However after a year of rigorous efforts, president Duterte
restated that his promise is still unceasing and requested the vast majority for an extension
due to the dreadful extent of the countrys drug problem.
First and foremost, Duterte's eagerness in this kind of situation is noted to be by far
commendable and praiseworthy. He reiterated the importance of human life specially the
youth and the family, and will not let his people suffer from the chaotic effects of criminals
and drug addicts. I personally have felt anguish to people using and selling drugs as these
illegal paraphernalia are considered to be the root of the heinous doings of people in our
country. However I would like to upheld him in his claims in handling the human rights of the
detainees. He stated that he detests the due process saying that it was slow and time-
consuming, and argued that if one is in the midst of a terror or even a crisis, one should be
punished instantly. He even reiterated that death penalty, a punishment fought for many
years, should begin to be practice again here in our country.
Environmental struggles, for instance the depletion of the earths ozone layer
instigating global warming and climate change, are becoming rampant and an alarming
situation to most of the people. This is mainly because of the greenhouse gasses and other
air pollutants such as smoke that traps the heat and sunlight causing the planet to increase in
temperature. Last July 23, Duterte announced the nationwide smoking ban in hopes of
resolving such dispute in the environment, as well as providing people the luxury and relief of
a breathable air.
In the case of experiencing calamities such as the infamous The Big One, an
earthquake predicted to have a magnitude of 7.2, Duterte correspondingly reminded the
people of the need to prepare for such natural disaster. He asked the obliging Congress well
ahead to review and pass significantly the proposed Disaster Response bill.
Dutertes efforts in unscrambling the issues of our environment are quite satisfactory
to our country. Not only that it would benefit the people living today but likewise the
generations ahead of us that would also dwell in our own soil. This would also influence the
countrys image to other nations as being a third world country with a lot of inhabitants living
in a country which was once considered exquisite and fine. Furthermore, it would also be
beneficial in terms of the health status of people as proposing the said smoking ban would
eliminate cases of second-hand smoking.
Despite the efforts of the Duterte administration in providing solution to pre-existent
problems, our country still has a lot to work on. Duterte highlighted that in order to achieve
the goal of the people, the people should be involve in participating to such as he quotes Let
us work together and lay a new foundation in which a better Philippines can be
reconstructed. Help me build a better tomorrow.
