Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 80
Answer any FIVE questions
All questions carry equal marks

*****
1 (a) Explain how high pass RC circuit works as a differentiator.
(b) Write a brief note on ringing circuit.
(c) A symmetrical square - wave whose peak-to-peak amplitude is 2 V and whose
average value is zero is applied to an RC integrating circuit. The time constant
equals the half period of the square-wave. Find the peak-to-peak value of the
output amplitude.

2 (a) State and prove clamping circuit theorem.

(b) Briefly explain about the transistor clipper.

3 (a) With a neat sketch explain about the transistor as a switch.

(b) Discuss in brief about the piece wise linear diode characteristics.

4 (a) Draw and explain the operation of collector-coupled monostable multivibrator.

(b) Design a fixed-bias transistor bistable multivibrator employing two n-p-n silicon
transistors with h FE (min) equal to 30. Assume that the power supply voltages in
the circuit V CC = V BB = 12 V.

5 (a) Discuss the methods of generating a time base waveform.

(b) Explain the basic principle of bootstrap time base generator and obtain the
expression for slope error e s in the bootstrap time base waveform.

6 (a) Explain the synchronization of a sweep circuit with symmetrical signals.

(b) A UJT sweep operates with a valley voltage V V = 3V and a peak voltage V p =
16V. A sinusoidal synchronizing voltage of 2 V peak is applied between bases.
The stand-off ratio is = 0.5. If the natural frequency of the sweep is 1,000 Hz,
over what range of synchronization signal frequency will the sweep remain in
1:1 synchronism with the synchronization signal?

7 (a) Explain the basic operating principles of sampling gates.

(b) Sketch circuit of a simple diode bidirectional sampling gage and describe its
functioning with neat waveforms. Also sketch the circuit in the form of a bridge
and obtain expression for gain A.

8 (a) Explain the realization of AND circuit using diodes and resistors.
(b) Discuss in brief about resistor transistor logic.
