Morality in the Movie Me Before You

Personally, if I was to describe the movie on a moral stand-point, the views

expressed in the movie regarding morality was very straightforward; it showed the

despairing character of Will Traynor, after experiencing the highs in life only to have

it robbed from him and suddenly not being able to experience most of the life that he

knew when he was paralyzed from a vehicular accident. Will Traynor was depicted

as a person who had built beyond than the foundations of his life, just to see it

crumble before his eyes, hence his wish to undergo assisted suicide. An example of a

Finis Opera is the act of suicide in itself, it has the object of ending ones life. The

Finis Operantis in Wills decision is to save himself from a shameful life, while the

circumstances present in Wills case is the fact that he is paralyzed and is terminally

ill, coupled with his rich experiences in the past which only made him miss his past

life even more.

In conclusion, if I was to say my take on the movies morality, I will say that

Wills act is moral, in the sense that he made a sound decision, and had considered

others existence in the equation of his decision. The fact that he agreed to his

mothers wish is enough proof that he considered his mothers feelings. But in the

end, Wills life is held by Wills decision, for in reality, it was his own life to end.
