Mrs. Ashs 1st Grade Class

Subject Area Snapshot...

Reading: Readers think about the text and how the words will go to help read the words.
In the classroom, first grade readers carefully look at the pictures and think about what they see, who might
be in the story, where they might be, and what they are doing. Readers keep the book I their head as they
read and solve tricky words by thinking, What might this say?
Writing: Writers edited their story and published it.
After working together with writing partners, and using an editing checklist, writers wrote their final copy of
their small moment.
Math: 2D shapes
We are finishing up this unit by sorting, classifying and identifying the characteristics of shapes. The stu-
dents described and constructed triangles and quadrilaterals using geoboards and dot game boards.
Science: Solids and Liquids:
The first grade scientists have been exploring liquids! They explored glue, water, oil, and shampoo. They have
had so much fun mixing the liquids and observing the different properties of these liquids. We still have more
to explore!

Conferences
I look forward to seeing you at conferences! Thank you in advance for being respectful of
the families before and after you and allowing me to stick to our 15 minutes. You will re-
ceive your child's report card at conferences!
