Math teacher Czarobski honored

In true Publishers Clear-
inghouse style, Thermopolis
Middle School math teacher,
Stephanie Czarobski was named
Bobcat Champion for Children
for the month of February.
Her scores definitely demon-
strate her ability to do amazing
things with students but I guess
the best way I could say it is I
wish she was my math teacher
when I was that age, said Su-
perintendent Dustin Hunt while
presenting Czarobski with the
award for this month.
The Champion for Children
program is replacing the Teach-
er of the Month award that has
been in place for several years.
With the new program, a
committee consisting of past
District Teachers of the Year
and parents receive nomina-
tions from the principals at all
three schools.
The committee then research-
es the nominations by visiting
with the nominees colleagues,
students and even community
members, then submits their
recommendation to Hunt.
Champion for Children will
be awarded four times a year
and winners will then be in the
pool for the honor of District
Teacher of the Year.
What makes Champion for
Children fun for everyone is
not knowing when or how the
teacher will be honored, hence
the Publishers Clearinghouse
style. It could be at an assem-
bly or in the classroom, but al-
ways in front of students and
colleagues.

Library hosts cultural gem discussion

Hot Springs County Library will sponsor a free
presentation by Richard Maturi on Thursday, Feb.
16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Library.
Maturi explores a collection of cultural gem li-
braries from coast-to-coast He will illustrate the
rich diversity of Americas libraries while explor-
ing the humanities focus on a broad panorama of
library architecture, unique building re-purpos-
ing and the various ways communities funded
their libraries.
Maturi is a published author of more than a

score of books, some in collaboration with his wife
Mary, and more than 1,000 articles.
Cultural Gems is presented by the Wyoming
Humanities Council as part of its ThinkWY Road
Scholars Tours program.
The Wyoming Humanities Council provides
public humanities-based programs in partnership
with local organizations and is funded by the Na-
tional Endowment for the Humanities with addi-
tional support from private donors and the Wyo-
ming Legislature.

Three winners emerged from seventeen competitors at the Thermopolis Middle

School Spelling Bee with Monte Love claiming first place, Kaidy Randall second
and Josiah Butler third.
Three headed to state spelling bee

A trio of Thermopolis Middle School stu-
dents will compete at the State Spelling Bee
at Western Wyoming Community College in
Rock Springs following competition at TMS
Friday.
Seventeen students were selected to com-
pete in the spelling bee based on their writ-
ten test scores. Competitors were required to
orally spell words for judges, with words be-
ing more and more difficult after each round.
The students spelled over 100 words com-
bined, and after several eliminations, Monte
Love emerged the champion; it took a few
more rounds to break the tie between Kaidy
Randall, who placed second and Josiah But-
ler, who placed third.
The three winners are invited to compete
at the State Spelling Bee planned for Satur-
day, March 11.
Knights of Columbus raffle winners
For the last few months the
Knights of Columbus, through
St. Francis Catholic Church,
have been selling raffle tickets
for your chance to win a quar-
ter beef.
The winners were drawn on
Feb. 12, with the meat going to
two local winners and two out
of town winners. Each quarter
weighs around 180 lbs.
One quarter goes to Dan Dom-
beck of Thermopolis and the sec-
ond quarter goes to Pastor Chuck
Cooper, also of Thermopolis. The
third quarter will be filling the
freezer of Maxine Ruppert of Ba-
sin, with the final quarter going
to Corey Pickett of Sheridan.
Although they are still tal-
lying numbers, the group esti-
mates they made between $2,000
and $3,000 on the project. Some-
where between 250 and 300 tick-
ets were sold.
All of the monies raised go
directly to things needed at
the church and to three or four
charities the group donates to
each year.
