    Father came to America for no particular reason
    They had to have a sponsor, he had a sponsor who was distant relative from

    Mothers family moved to Idaho and settled in spokane

    Mother-went to school, wasnt allowed to speak English at home
    -in thirties before she was completely proficient, continued Swedish letters
    all her life
    Father-came to US with no English, but immediately learned English, worked at
    paper mill
