Reflections on Observation Task 3: Teaching Shared/Guided Reading

1. Which concepts about print (CAP), phonological awareness, letter knowledge and or
phonics did the teacher focus on?
- The teacher focused on the CAP while she started pointing at each word, and when she
say an important word she would raise her tone a little.

a) What did strategies/activities the teacher use to help the students understand the
concept being taught?

- The teacher did not used activities during the story time, which is the last 15 minutes before
going to home, so even if she had activities she wont be able to do it. She used different tone as
well she pointed at the words and introduce the book for them.

2. Were there any initial/medial/final sounds, punctuation, sight words or word families that were
covered during the lesson? If they were, select (a); if they were not, select (b).

a. What was the purpose of teaching these concepts? Explain its importance.
- To make the story more effective the teacher used different tone and pitch level to demonstrate
sounds, she used face- expression, boy/ girl voice to let them enjoy the story. While reading the
story there was part when the boy said I like to drink milk and the teacher pointed at the milk
and other part the girl said I like to eat fruits so the teacher pointed at the fruits.
