Unit Objectives:
Students will be able to test their prior knowledge of two dimensional shapes.
Students will be able to apply the formulas of volumes they learned by computing the volumes of real world objects.
Students will be able to use a digital interactive to present the information they found.
Students will be able to identify and state key vocabulary and formulas.
Big Ideas:
How do two dimensional shapes help us find formulas for volume?
How can we apply these formulas in real life?
Unit Summary:
Students will be familiar with different volume formulas and how to derive the formulas using prior knowledge of two-
dimensional shapes such as perimeter and area. Students will learn to use volume formulas for cylinders, pyramids, and
cones to solve problems. Students will learn how to apply knowledge learned in unit to real world problems. Students will
learn how to use applications such as Paddlet to present their group projects.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: Formative: Summative:
I will pass out the guided notes that I have made to the students. I will begin my lecture
using the projector so it is easier for the students to see. I will have the students follow
along with my lecture by filling out the guided notes that I have given them. During my
lesson, I will be using different colored pens so that everything is color-coded. The students
will be given different colored pencils to color code their notes as well. They will also have
highlighters to highlight important information such as definitions and names. In the guided
notes I will provide examples that we would work on together as a class. I will do one
example problem of each type and have them work on the other problems on their own.
They may ask their peers for help. I will then ask someone to give me the answer and
explain how he or she got to it.
