METHOD STATEMENT for HANSEN FITTINGS WITH PERT PIPE

A) Polyethylene Raised Temperature (PERT) Pipe & Fittings Specifications for Hot Water Supply

Material of pipes for hot water supply shall be of Polyethylene Raised Temperature (PERT)
manufactured in compliant with MS ISO 10508:2004

Material of fittings for hot water supply shall be of Nylon 6, type of engineering plastic,
manufactured in compliant with MS ISO 10508:2004

B) Pipe/Fittings (Jointing Method)

The PERT pipe is to be cut square using pipe cutters or knife to required length. The pipe ends
should be cleared of scrapings and burrs before use and it is to be ensured that the internal bore
is free of scrapings, oil or grease.

Insert the fitting into the pipe with a twisting motion until the pipe end reaches the circlip seating
(white circlip on the fitting). Wind the nut onto the pipe by hand until it is not able to turn
anymore. Having done that, use a small pipe wrench or spanner or Stillson to make an additional
3 to 4 turns of the nut to tighten further. (Pic 1)

C) Manufacturers Requirements

1. A copper pipe to be used for the first meter from the heat source. This is to prevent
excessive heat being transferred directly to the plastic joint and pert pipe in the event of
faulty thermostat or temperature sensor.
2. The PERT pipe MUST be securely fastened to the brackets before and after the joints, and
for every 1 meter of the pipe spanning. This is to prevent the thermally expanded pipe
from the load stress onto the joints. (Pic 2)

3. PERT pipe MUST not be exposed to direct sunlight.

D) Technical Details: For hot water application, the following ratings shall apply:

Working Pressure 4 Bar (58psi) @ 70C

Max. Operating Temp 95C @ 4 Bar

Thermal Conductivity 0.4W/mK

Coefficient of Elongation 0.2mm/mK
