    Childhood obesity is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease risk factors in adulthood such as higher blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. A study using data from the Bogalusa Heart Study found significant relationships between measures of childhood obesity taken from ages 5-17 and coronary heart disease risk factors measured in young adulthood. Heavier children were more likely to have risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol levels when they became adults.
