President Dianne Wilson called the
meeting to order with a clear ring of the
Bell. Michelle Robbins gave a musical
invocation, singing Testify to Love and
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Our only guest was the days speaker Ron
Haas, COO of the Moraga Country Club.
Debbie Roessler informed us that Ron
Schopke, husband of our member Louise
Schopke, had passed away after a long
illness. In better times Ron was a
supporter of our club and a worker at
Louise and her family.
Michelle Robbins offered a selection of
jewelry and purses for sale made by
women in Uganda. Revenue went to a
Womens Cooperative there and for micro
loans for them to establish businesses.
~ RECOGNITIONS ~
HAPPY BUCKS were offered by: Ron
Mucovich for his sons team,
Northwestern University, defeating
Nebraska for their third consecutive
overtime victory, a NCAA football record;
Al Simonsen for successful cataract
surgery; and Peter Metzger for Saklans
choir singing the national anthem at a
Warriors game.
Peter Metzger was also recognized for his
birthday which was celebrated with his
wife at the Lord Stanley restaurant in San
Francisco.
Alka Mulakaluri took a trip to Seattle for
her birthday and to teach a class in
Traditional Indian Medicine at her sons
integrated medical center.
Bob Fritzky celebrated his 61st birthday
and his 25th wedding anniversary.
~ ANNOUNCEMENTS ~
Barbara Bruner and Evie Michon
reported on the success of the Recipe
Project at the Monument Crisis Center.
Recipes are placed in bags of groceries
given to needy families to help them better
prepare meals with the food provided.
Some 1,500 bags with Thanksgiving
turkeys and recipes will be distributed.
Frank May reminded all that we need to
get to work to generate donations of
auction items and raffle prizes for Nite at
the Races (March 10, 2018). Please get
him a list of persons who should be
invited.
Kevin Reneau reported that the site prep
work is nearly complete for the All Access
Playground. A day-long (9-5) Rotary work
party is planned for December 9 to help
install equipment.

~ STORY TELLING ~
The Story Teller for the day was Kevin
Reneau. He recounted two versions of his
experience at the Cal/Stanford Big Game
in 1982 when The Play occurred. In the
first scenario he left the press box before
the play and took the elevator down to the
locker rooms with media people and
missed the play. In the second scenario he
stayed behind in the press box and saw
the play. Linda May was the raffle winner
who had to make the choice. She correctly
chose the second scenario and won the
plate of Cowboy Cookies.
~ PROGRAM ~
Bob Fritzky introduced our speaker, Ron
Haas, Chief Operating Officer of the
Moraga Country Club. Ron joined the
MCC in July, 2017. Originally from Austria,
he is a 30-year veteran of private club
management most recently in Carmel.
Family ties brought him to Moraga. His
primary goal is to provide outreach to the
community from the club which wants
more community involvement.
Ron gave a brief history of the club which
opened in 1974. By 1978 260 homes had
been sold. There are currently 521 home
owners, one half of which are detached
single-family units.
The Club has one of a few grass driving
ranges in the area, a 25-yard swimming
pool with 9 lanes and 12 tennis courts.
A new 22,000 square foot club house was
built in 2012.
A long-term master plan is being
developed and may include bocce and
pickle ball courts, a childrens center and
a fitness center.
There are no further plans for housing
expansion but an adjoining area owned by
the Bruzzone family could accommodate
68 new homes.
In addition to home ownership which
includes all memberships, there are 375
golf associate members and 250 swim and
tennis associate members.
Regarding the landslide area on Augusta
Drive, two homes have been condemned
and one is in danger. The matter is yet to
be resolved.
Ron distributed copies of a book
presenting the history of the Club.
