Job Description

campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland.
The focus of the project is on exploring and utilizing enzymatic means to convert cellulose into value-
added products. We invite applications from motivated researchers with suitable background on
biopolymer science, soft matter science, enzyme technology or bioprocess engineering. Ideally, a
candidate is expert in one of the fields and has a good understanding of a second area.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field. He/she should have a track record in con-
ducting innovative scientific research and publishing in high-ranking scientific journals. The ability to
work effectively and independently as well as good social skills are expected. The candidate is
expected to contribute to teaching activities in the department.
We offer an international research environment with the opportunity to conduct highly competitive
research. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to on-going projects and / or actively
develop his or her own research profile. We have state-of-the-art biotechnology laboratory
infrastructure and analytical instruments (ESI-ETD-Iontrap MS, MALDI TOF/TOF MS, NMR
instruments). We also have significant infrastructure for bioproduct science and materials
characterization. The candidate is ex-pected to contribute to teaching. The salary is based on the Local
Agreement of Aalto University. The position will be initially filled for 1 year, with possible extensions for
an additional year.
