On February 20 - 21 was my immersion date, my shift was from 10
am to 1 pm. I was very nervous but calm because ill be talking to different people and even foreigners too. And the front desk is a very demanding job thats why I did a bit of research to help me in my shift.
During my shift there was a low volume of guest which made my
stay a bit more stress free. On my first day we were briefed by miss Diane on the basics of what to do on the front desk. She thought us the rates of the hotel, the management and the schedules of the buffet etc. It was good experience since we are given a glimpse on how a hotel or rather the front desk work. We were thought to always smile and greet everytime a guest passes by. We also try to assist them regarding their inquiries as well but most of the time miss Diane knows the answers to the inquiries. I observed on how miss Diane worked, she was good in multitasking she juggled from answering the calls to assisting guests who are arriving and checking out. It looks like a tiring and demanding job but she makes it so easy. Nearing the end of our shift the front desk clerks thought that I was our time to experience answering calls. They told us the different spiels depending if its a inside call or an outside call. There was a bit of a pressure since you only have a few seconds to know whether its an outside or inside call. But most of the calls that we handled were only about transferring to different departments so it wasnt that hard of a shift. On the second day we were assisted by a practicumer whom I forgot his name. He gave us his insights about the his experience on the front desk, he talked about different situations and what to do if ever it happens. As expected from us we were already answering calls on our second hour. We took turns on answering the phone it was a bit fun because he helped each other on what to do. Later on nearing the end of the shift there was a school thats touring our hotel. We were asked on who wants to join the showroom. Since it was my last day I glady volunteered. We toured the students from la salle bagac bataan in the hotel. We showed them the different outlets that we had and my partner ( whom I forgot his name) made me in charge on touring the students about the different rooms and amenities that we had. We went on through the higher floors and showcased the best rooms that we have, the students were awestuck because they knew that our hotel was a 3 star hotel but what they saw was a 5 star room setting. My partner explained that even though it was a 3 star hotel, our rooms and services are 5 stars.
In the end it was a very good experience. It made me go out my
comfort zone. They made answer calls, talk to guest and even tour students, they made me feels as if it was already a real job and it was very fun.
