Sleep - Eric Whitacre

Ride On King Jesus - Moses Hogan

I chose Sleep because I believe that its a fairly well know piece in the choral world. This gives
the students a chance to perform a song for a judge that may know everything about every bar
of the work. This gives the students motive to really perfect the piece (This is also just one of
my favorite pieces of music in general so I had to pick it). The Hogan song, I think, give a great
deal of variety to the performance. In the same way as Sleep, this is a well know piece and I
believe an important one for students to perform.

Male

Vive L'amour - arr. Alice Parker & Robert Shaw

Danny Boy - arr. Mark Hayes

I chose these songs for the male choir because they are both slow, lyrical, and pretty. To me
this is what male choirs do best, and I believe its a good chance for the students to be
expressive and meaningful while making music. My hopes would be that the students can use
this as an opportunity to impress people who may just be expecting sea shanties.

Treble

Igraj Kolce - Jakob Jez

Three Folk Songs - Brahms/arr. Ehret

Igrai Kolce is a very technical song that can seem quite dicult to the listener while being not
too dicult to perform. It can at times be very pretty and at times be very quick and all over the
place. I believe that it would be impressive to take to LGPE. Three Folk Songs, on the other
hand, is a bit more traditional. It focuses more on pretty harmonies and countryside imagery. I
believe these pieces work well together as a single performance.

Beginning SATB

Come Again, Sweet Love - Dowland

Music Brings Joy - Russell Robinson

Come Again is a song that I expect more judges on a panel to be familiar with, and its just a
simple pretty song that I believe can be executed quite well by a beginning choir. Music Brings
Joy celebrates the joy of making music and is in an exciting cannon form (in an almost
madrigal style).
