TEKE: Fig. 1.19(F)- I can make relevant connections that support understanding and discuss text
evidence.
Time: 30 minutes

MATERIALS NEEDED
- Animals at Home book
- Pictures of different homes from around the world
- Pictures of different types of homes (apt., houses, trailer, etc.)
- Text-to-world, Text-to-self, Text-to-text worksheet

ANTICIPATORY SETTING
I will ask them where they live and if they think their home looks like another person's home.

OBJECTIVE:
Students will be able to identify text-to-world, text-to-self, and text-to-text connections after
reading Animal at Home at least 1 connection for each type.
RELEVANCY:
They will be able to make connections about themselves to other people's lifestyle.

INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT:
I will read to them and then discuss how to make a good connection. Also review different
homes around the world and their social studies knowledge.

MODELING:
Give them an example of a text-to-self-connection
GUIDED PRACTICE:
We will come up with a text-to-text connection
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:
They will fill in the rest of the worksheet
ASSESSMENT:
Make sure they use text evidence
CLOSURE:
They can share their connection with the class
SPONGE:
Ask them questions about the story
