Dr Subhadra Jalali,

Subhadra Jalali did her MBBS with distinction (1986) from Jammu University and her MS in
ophthalmology (1989) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research
(PGIMER), Chandigarh, winning the Silver Medal (First order medal). She did a two-year
fellowship in general ophthalmology, including one year in the Retina Vitreous Services at L V
Prasad Eye Institute (1991-1993). She underwent further fellowship training at the National Eye
Institute, Bethesda, USA (1995) in ocular genetic diseases and electrophysiology of vision and
posterior uveitis. In 1998, she underwent a short-term fellowship program in the management of
retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and paediatric retinal disorders at the William Beaumont
Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan, with Dr Michael T Trese. Dr Jalali joined L V Prasad Eye
Institute as Faculty in 1993. She is a co-investigator in various multi centric international studies
and has received many states, national and international awards, including the Indian National
Talent Search Award, American Academy Achievement Award, Asia Pacific Academy of
Ophthalmology (APAO) achievement award, ISCEV travel grant, AIOS P. Siva Reddy
International award, IJO platinum award, IAPB Eye Health leadership award, Mother Teresa
award. She received the Sightsavers grant (2003-2005) for setting up treatment and training
centres for the control of childhood blindness in the field of ROP in Andhra Pradesh. She is on
the National Task Force on ROP Govt. of India, and also expert advisor on ROP to Govt. of
Bangladesh and Phillipines.
Dr Jalali has over 500 presentations and 150 publications in national and international journals
and many book chapters. Her areas of interest are advanced vitreoretinal surgery, especially in
paediatric cases including Retinopathy of Prematurity, severe ocular trauma, endophthalmitis,
and primary retinal degenerations including ocular electrophysiology.
