THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Two weeks ago I had my first taste of St. John

Vianneys Got Talent show. It was a delightful
evening with plenty of surprises from the 8 year
old musicians to the 80 year old actors, each one
contributing whatever talents they could offer to
produce such an enjoyable and entertaining night.
It wasnt just the performances. So many made it
possible by helping organising it, building the stage,
setting up the hall, preparing food and, most
importantly, being there. After all, it wouldnt have
been fun if there were no audience present!

Just like in todays gospel, God has entrusted each one of us uniquely with His gifts.
It isnt just a matter of gold talents like in the reading... these talents come in many
shapes and form. Some of us have the gift of intelligence; others are musical, or
artistic. Some have the gift of hospitality and being welcoming; others are always
ready to go out and give a helping hand. Some are good listeners; others are great
speakers. Some are inspiring mentors or leaders; others are good at following
instructions and giving support. Some have a great sense of humour and knows how
to liven things up; others can calm you down and give you a sense of peace just by
their presence. The list goes on and on. Its not about how big or small our talents
are... what matters in the end is how we make the most out of it.

Its interesting to note that Jesus uses this parable to speak about the Kingdom of God.
Perhaps He is highlighting the fact that the Kingdom of God is our responsibility as
much as Gods. He wants us to be his partners, to share the ownership of the talents
he has given to us, and be faithful in administering what we have been entrusted with.

I pray that we each may recognise the talents that are in our possession, and share in
Gods happiness by being faithful to the little or big things He had given us!
