About Me
My name is Ms. Willock and this is my 5th year teaching English, Im excited to be your
online teacher! Im a native Arizonan and I received my B.A. in English and M.A. in Special
Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson, go Wildcats! If you want to know
more, check out my website! I am here to help you in any way I can! I respond to emails
and text messages quickly so please communicate with me if you need assistance.

About the Course
In this interactive course, you will expand their vocabulary, examine
literature and create written projects. You will study and apply the Six Traits
of Writing to all of you projects. You build writing skills through the
processes of prewriting, organizing, drafting, revising, editing and
publishing.

During the course, you will be learning the following:


Unit 1: Exploring Narrative Nonfiction
Unit 2: Examining Persuasive Text
Unit 3: Analyzing Speeches
Unit 4: Conducting Research
Unit 5: Synthesizing Research
Unit 6: Working with Functional Text

Course Expectations
ATTENDANCE- Students must attend a minimum of 3 hours per day in my
course and submit a minimum of 1 lesson per day 5/7 days of the week.
You will be required to submit attendance daily.

Since our C3 session is during the holidays, make sure to


check the calendar for due dates as some days you will need
to complete TWO sessions to account for days off.
**EXTENSION POLICY- Extensions may be granted in the course based on
student need. In order to earn an extension, you must meet the following
requirements:
- A minimum progress grade of 40% or higher
- A minimum of 1 project must be turned in and
completed correctly
- You must have a plan for Mrs. Chism for how you are
going to complete your coursework during the
extension. To request an extension, you MUST FILL OUT
an EXTENSION REQUEST!!! 1 day before the end of the
term.

Other circumstances may qualify a student for an extension. Please


communicate with Ms. Willock if you have questions or concerns
regarding extensions.

What is a synchronous session? A synchronous session is a live
session students can attend with the instructor and other
students in your course and taking the exit ticket quiz.

attending by completing the synchronous activity and taking

DISCUSSIONS - On the discussion board, you are required to post


only 1 time per lesson. Please use the following rubric to help you.
Remember the following:
You must address ONE or more of the questions, which
include Ms. Willocks alternate discussion posts.
You must use appropriate spelling and grammar.
You s hould not write I dont know on the discussion
board. If you need help, please contact Ms. Willock.

GRADING - In this course, the grades are weighted by different


categories in the grade book. While it is important to
complete ALL of the assignments with quality, refer to the
following weighted grades to determine which assignments are
most important.

LEARNING LAB- Need help? The Special Education Learning Lab is available by
appointment from 8 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. Paraprofessionals are
waiting to help you.
