Personal Qualities
I regard myself as a reliable and self motivated individual with excellent collaborative,
organizational and interpersonal communication skills and confident sense of my own
abilities. I have an easy-going personality and enjoy the company of others and like
sharing my knowledge with colleagues in the work environment. I appreciate the
importance of teamwork and always keep an open mind to other peoples’ points of view
while maintaining my integrity and individualism
Work experience under tough and real time, huge network infrastructures with tough
deadlines is my strength. I had my experience mainly three different environments and
industries, Lanka On line –Web Development Company, had to work with developers,
Data bases and very tough deadlines. HSBC – High secure Banking environment had to
maintain zero downtime, high level of redundancy, high end technology and 24X7
working hours. Practical Action – charity based organization with inter connectivity with
seven countries, handling international projects with budget deadlines, own decision
making for planning, designing & implementing.
The best challenge & Achievement in my life is system recovery after our server
room (Practical Action - 5th August 2007) completely was burnt to dust due to electric
short. I was able to restore total system from the scratch after the crisis without losing
any data. (Damage was 100 lacks, we were able to buy new servers, install & configure
in a temporary location, restored backed up data, designed and construct new server
room with recommended standards, then moved servers to the new server room )
Working Experience
Practical Action is a charity registered in the United Kingdom which works directly in four
regions of the developing world – Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and South
Asia, with particular concentration on Peru, Kenya, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka,
Bangladesh and Nepal.
Job Description
o Develop IT targets for the annual business plan based on requirements from the
Group/ management Practical Action – South Asia, Islamabad (Pakistan), Orissa
(India) and users.
o Recommend long term development of the Information Technology.
o To identify immerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and
introduced within the Practical Action – South Asia, Islamabad (Pakistan), Orissa
(India).
o To carry out economic feasibilities with regard to the purchase of hardware,
software and other IT acquisitions and make recommendations thereon.
o To administrate the existing Local Area Network (at two locations, if required) and
develop a strategy, which minimizes downtime, identify and integrate the needs
of IT automation. (e.g. backups) and train the users in procedures relating to the
LAN.
o To plan and implement comprehensive disaster recovery and backup strategies
(Antivirus software, RAID, & Tape backup).
o To ensure LAN security by implementing and monitoring Firewall and Proxy Server
at the Internet gateway.
o To monitor IT status in Practical Action – South Asia and recommend policies and
practices to improve performance
o Train staff on basics of new IT concept as systems are upgraded
o Recommend IT training for staff
o To participate and assist with Practical Action - Group wide IT system
development, implementation and Knowledge Management strategy.
o To build & improve the skills and knowledge of staff in the use of computers and
relevant software applications.
Achievements
o Recovered entire system within five days (Procurement, Delivery, Installation,
Configuration and Backup restoration of the Servers) when entire server room was
burnt due to fire. Temporary system provided to users to do their day to day
activities in the very next day after the crisis.
o Successfully implemented Spam filtering system for the organization using
SMSME 5.0 which reduces 99% of spams.
o Successfully implemented centralized antivirus system using Symantec Antivirus
Corporate Edition 10.0 & provide reliable antivirus protection for the organization.
o Converted CISCO Content manager to the ISA server for the first time in the
organization and then rest of the countries followed.
o Implemented WSUS server for reduce the bandwidth utilization for windows
updates.
o Configured ISA 2006 server as a VPN Server and introduced wireless mobile
dongle for project managers’ to connect to the office LAN using VPN to get all the
benefits (Outlook client, SharePoint, Shard Drive access, Office communicator &
remote printing) in LAN
o Implemented & configured centralized Backup library (Tandberg) using Symantec
BackupEcex 11.0

Windows 2003 Server/Exchange Server 2003/ ISA 2006
HSBC Electronic Data Processing Lanka Pvt Ltd (HDPL) a wholly owned subsidiary of the
HSBC Group. Was established in Sri Lanka in January 2004 at Colombo and is the newest
hub of the Group's customer service initiatives. Colombo is the fourth centre in South
Asia following three centres in India (Hyderabad, Bangalore and Vizag).
Software: IBM operating system and applications, Microsoft operating systems and
office automation packages, business oriented applications as well as in house developed
applications.
Job Description
o Ensure IT environment does not pose any high Audit risks and address
low/medium risks.
o Provide a centralized Service Desk for all IT related queries
o Ensure IT processes migrated to HDPL are operational as per agreed service
levels
o Share best practices with other GSC’s
o Establish GSC standards
o Coordinate with Business areas to ensure IT requirements are met as required
o Install and maintain Servers and desktop PCs
o Coordinate with service providers (local and international) to ensure service
delivery and performance are to acceptable levels.

maintenance services.
