Important Lead Safety Notification

Dear Resident,

In June, NYCHA will be joining the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) and other public housing authorities across the country in
recognizing the First Annual National Healthy Homes Month. The Authority is taking
this opportunity to provide information and outreach to NYCHA families to help keep
you as safe as possible from lead exposures.

Each year NYCHA mails residents a legally-required form to complete about any children ages six and under
that live in your apartment. Its important to identify younger children because they are most at-risk for lead
exposure from swallowing paint chips and dust through normal hand-to-mouth activity. Elevated lead levels in
the blood can cause serious effects on health, learning, and behavior. Lead paint can still be present in many
New York City apartments, sometimes under layers of newer paint. If the paint is in good shape, the lead paint
is typically not a hazard.

Since our records show this apartment is the

home to at least one child that is six years old
or younger, NYCHA will require access to your
apartment to inspect for potential lead-paint
hazards (peeling or damaged paint on the CCC at 718-707-7771
surfaces, including door and window frames.)
If any potential lead-paint hazards are
identified, NYCHA will correct any issues
promptly. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact your local Property
Management Office.

You will be notified of the scheduled date of

the inspection. Please ensure that you or an
adult, 18 years or older, is home to give the
NYCHA inspector access to the unit.

The inspection will be brief, so please be

home for your scheduled appointment.
