Data on registered road vehicles in the Republic of Moldova was provided by the State Enterprise State In-

Methodological notes
Transported goods represent the quantity of
transported goods, in tonnes.
Transported goods by road, river and air trans-
port include transported goods with own or rented
transport means by enterprises and organizations, re-
gardless of the place of departure and arrival. Data re-
garding the freight road transport include freight volumes
carried by physical persons trucks.
Transported goods with railway include the goods
laden in freight cars and transported by railway, regardless
of place of arrival. Also, there are included the goods laden
on a foreign railway and transported by Moldovan railway
to be unladen in the country or for transit.
For the calculation of weight of transported goods,
it is taken into account the weight of packages or con-
tainers used for transportation.
Turnover of goods is measured in tonnes-kilo-
meters and determined by the weight of transported
goods and the distance passed by the vehicles which
carry out the transportation, from the place of departure
to the place of arrival.
Transported passengers express the number of
transported persons, during one year, including the pas-
sengers benefiting from privileges in transport.
Passengers turnover is measured in passenger-
kilometers and determined by the number of trans-
ported passengers and the distance which was passed.
Airport traffic represents embarkment/disembark-
ment of passengers and loading/unloading of goods
and mail in/from national or foreign aircrafts which take
off/land on the International Airport Chisinau, as well as
movements of aircrafts on this airport.
Public roads are meant for the satisfaction of road
transport needs of national economy, population, state
defense and are managed by a state body. The public
roads are divided by their function in national and local.
National roads ensure the connection between
the capital city and the municipalities, towns or other im-
portant localities and also with the neighbour countries.
Local roads ensure the connection between the
towns, communes and villages within the borders of
the county, or with neighbouring counties and also with
other points situated out of the borders of the locality
and are not included in the national roads category.

goods.
