Good day Professor,

This is the memo of my methodology to generate a hull, using design ratios and hull coefficients. Below

Awppmb m2
Waterplane area at parallel midbody
Procedure:

To calculate one of the dimensions of the vessel the two equations were used:

Cb = CP Cms ,

Cb= ,

Hence B can be calculated by substituting the by expressing the ratios of L/B and B/T in terms of B and
substituting equations and in the formula below

B= 3 ( X B/T/ Cp cms X L/B)

Thus, principal particulars of L, T & Cb and Ams were calculated after obtaining B.

The volume of the parallel midbody was a trapezium of into the length of Lpmb.

The volumes of the entrance and run were expressed as triangles of dimension Le&Lr with a depth of T
and swept across port to starboard i.e. the beam, the volumes of two equal triangles were removed from
both the forward and aft segments, the subtraction of the two additional volume was done, because we
have a trapezoidal section at both ends of the parallel midbody.

To calculate the Le;

The first step was to assign a coefficient of Le/Lr

is given by: e +pmb +R

Where e= 0.5BTLe -0.5(B-Bbottom)/2)TLe

pmb = Ams Lpmb

R = 0.5BTLr -0.5(B-Bbottom)/2)TLr

The length (L) is given by: Lpmb +Le+ Lr

To find the breadth at the bottom at midship we can equate the area of the trapezium to the Ams.

To find the length of entrance we can use the ratio in and equations, , , , & and by
factorisation we finally obtain the equation to calculate the length of run.

Le = (-AmsL) / (0.5BT-1/3(B-Bbottom)T-Ams)(1+1/ Le/Lr)

Once the Le was calculated all the other outputs were calculated.

The plotting points for the plan, sheer and body plan view were tabulated and drawn.
Multiple values of CP and Cms were input to verify that calculations were performed correctly and the
results were consistent, I have attached the results at the end of this exercise with inputs of Cm: 1, 0.75
and 0.5.

Conclusion: I have learn from this exercise that the geometrical meaning of the coefficients and its
paramount importance in Naval Architecture. The hull generation from just design ratios and coefficient
was very interesting thing to do and its not in any text book, its really quick to generate a model and
it is an effective tool in the earlier design stage.
Results;

For Cms=1, This midship should be a box with dimension of B and T.
