Movement Lesson Plan : 2nd Grade Lemont

Mrs. Komlenic

1. Teacher (T) will gain students (ss) attention. Good morning, second graders!
Last week we learned a song that had nonsense syllables. I am going to sing the
song and I would like you to listen for those nonsense syllables.
Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
2. T: Can someone with a raised hand tell me what the three nonsense syllables are
in this song?
3. S: hi, lo, chicka
4. T: Great listening!
T Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
5. T: Lets all sing that together (Teacher provides assistance as needed and
evaluates)
S Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
6. T: I want you to look around the room and think of a place you can go to have
your own space. (Pause) When you get to that space I want you to face the front
board. (Pause) Now please move to that space
7. T: So our first word is hi. Can anyone tell me the name of an animal that might
fly high in the sky?
S: Birds
T: Thats right! Lets make a motion just like birds whenever we hear hi.
T and S Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
T: Our next word is lo. What is an animal that lives nice and low on the
ground?
S: Varied responses
T: Thats a great animal that lives low on the ground. Lets get low to the ground
like (insert animal name) does. Lets add that movement. So for hi we fly like
a bird, and for lo we go low like a (insert animal name).
T and S Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
T: Now the other part we have is chicka, does that remind anyone of an animal
name? What animal does that remind you of
S: Chicken
T: Thats what it reminds me of, a chicken! Now we have a movement for each
of our nonsense syllables. I am going to sing the song and I would like for you to
just do the motions
T:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
8. T: Very nice! Lets try putting it all together. I would like to hear the finest
second grade singing voices, and the most beautiful animals!
T and S Sings:Hi lo chickalo chickalo chickalo
Hi lo chickalo chickalo hi
