6. As President of the Student Couincil of the University of Mauritius, you would like to
organize a full-day workshop on “Prevention of HIV/AIDS”. Write a letter to the Vice-
Chancellor of the university to seck permission and to explain why you have chosen the
above title. You also need to explain how you plan to carry out this event: date, time,
venue, audience, resource persons etc. (the body of the letter should be between 200-250
words). - :

7. You have recently purchased a laptop from a well-known electronic shop and after only
two months, due to some technical problems, you are compelled to take it back for
repairs to the shop. You are given the assurance that the laptop will be repaired within
one month or else replaced by a new one. As the laptop is still under warranty, all
charges, including spare parts and labour will be covered by the shop. However, the shop
fails to repair the laptop within the settled delay and is, furthermore, unwilling to replace
it with a new one, as previously agreed. After repeated phone calls to the shop manager,
you decide to address him/her a formal letter of complaint. Write the letter, including any
information you deem necessary. (the body of the letter should be between 200-250
words)

8. (i) “Listening” should be understood in the wide sense of the term — listening with the
eyes and other senses. Discuss (8 marks)(ii) Nonverbal communication plays an important role in communication. Yet, it
can also give rise to difficulties in communication. Using precise examples,
identify the main pitfalls and barriers of at least three nonverbal codes.

9.(a) You are a University student quite involved in social work in your community. Given
the recent rapid rise in child abuse, you have been asked to address an audience of
upper secondary school students on the issue, with the aim of sensitizing them.
(i) Discuss the parameters you are going to consider when preparing your speech.

(ii) Outline the key issues you will mention in your speech. (8 marks)
(iii) Explain which mode(s) of speech delivery you will use. (3 marks)
(iv) Discuss the presentation aid(s) which seem most appropriate for your speech.
