Febr. 1997 ributor COMPACT ‘Service Manual Docu Documentation 3.3 3.3.4 Principle of Operation (Refer to Fig. 3-2: Block Diagram) Principle of Operation of the Distributor PCB The DC/DC converter on the distributor PCB generates an electrically separated 24 V volt- age from the 24 V ship mains. The gyro compass and the electronics of the distributor are supplied by this voltage. An exception to this is the supply of the gyro compass heating which is produced from the filtered ship's mains. An oscillating switching regulator (400 Hz) triggers a transformer with the 24 V voltage from the DC/DC converter. This transformer makes further electrically separated voltages avail- able form the 24 V voltage. These are: — 5 V for the SPERRY outputs (approx. 10 W max.) — +5 for the electrically separated interfaces (approx. 2 W max.) — #12 \V for the analog output (approx. 0.5 W max.) With the exception of the 35V voltage, all voltages are rectified and stabilized at 5V or 12 V, respectively (N83—N85). The microprocessor monitors these voltages and indicates a fault when one of the voltages fails. ‘The power supply for the remaining circuitry is taken from the 24 V voltage of the DC/DC converter and stabilized at 5 V. The core of the distributor COMPACT is a microprocessor that is operated in Expanded Mode. A watchdog circuitry guarantees for the required safety. The processor receives the serial heading and converts the information contained therein (heading, R.o.T., etc.) into other required signals. Serial information is generated in $4") or NMEA format together with the DUART (N6). The switch-over from $4 to NMEA is made via configuration switch B14.1. This serial informa tion is directed electrically separated to jumper panel B61.1....868.1 (with NMEA) and B61.3....68.3 (with HEADING SERIAL”) and the interface RS 422 HEADING SERIAL trans- mitted to jumper panel B54. Together with jumper panel B61.2....B68.2, in this way a selec- tion between S4 "NMEA and HEADING SERIAL ") is possible for each of the eight RS 422 interfaces by jumpering. Another interface is additionally made available by the processor and the DUART; a serial heading printer can be connected via this interface. This interface is converted into an RS 232 interface (electrically separated). 1 Raytheon Anschutz spezitic Edition: 26. Feb 1997 3-3 30026/110-224.NGootDocas2 Distributor COMPACT ‘Service Manual 3.3.2 The processor generates SPERRY step signals from the heading information of the RS 422 interface (HEADING SERIAL); these step signals are transmitted to electrically separated open collector outputs of optocouplers. The signals are made available there as common + signal (against 35 V) or as common - signal (against GND) via jumpers (B20 - B22) each with a maximal output current of 140mA. ‘An analog voltage output is generated with the D/A converter (N16). Either the heading sig- nal or the rate of tum signal can be given analog with this output. Selection is made with switch BSS. The maximal output voltage is +10 V. Ifthe analog signal rate of tum is selected, then various scalings are possible with B14.2, B14.3 and B14.4: = 30%min = 100°%/min 180"/min 300°/min 500%/min A floating relay contact relays the status of the gyro compass. This contact is connected even in case of a fault in the distributor COMPACT, e.g. in case of: — breakdown of one of the monitored voltages —no transmission of telegrams of the interface RS 422 HEADING SERIAL, etc. A yellow LED signalises the status of the distribution unit: ~ flashing with 0.5 Hz: normal operation = flashing with 1 Hz: test operation flashing with 2 Hz: fault detected — flashing irregularly: processor breakdown Principle of Operation of the Transfer Module The transfer module connects the distributor COMPACT with the external devices. The transfer module is a board with the components for the EMC, the contact terminals and fuses. The gyro compass is connected by a 9-pin plug connector (B2). An 87-pin terminal strip (L1) provides the following connections or outputs: = B repeater compasses (digital repeater and/or steering repeater with RS 422 inter— face). The 24 V supply for each of these repeater compasses is fuse-protected by a 1 Atuse. 0026110-224.NGoOTDOCOs2 3-4 Edition: 12. June 1997 Distributor COMPACT Service Manual Soumen ‘ecumentation — one RS 232 interface output (e.g. for a serial heading printer) — five SPERRY step outputs (35 V).
